Lets go to Miami and buy a boat he said......

Looking back it was incredibly easy to remove ourselves from  life as we knew it.
Cutting off power, water, phone, internet accounts, health insurance, cancelling road toll passes was relatively easy. The farm that had been our family home for the last ten or so years, was rented long term to a lovely young couple that were already renting the sheds for their business. Our biggest hurdle was disengaging ourselves from our local internet provider "Telstra". In the end we gave up and just said "You've had three months, were going and wont be paying anymore accounts. Any Aussie would understand what dealing with them is like.

Removing ourselves from the farmhouse was a matter of storing things "that gave us joy" such as family photos, kids school reports, photos and achievements, soft toys they may want to pass on if they do decide to one day have kids, and gifts from family and friends that were too precious to lose.
We kept a couple of furniture items such as a small square hardwood dining table and 4 chairs, one set of bedroom drawers and a few kitchen utensils, but everything else we left in the house, sold or gave away.  We had known we were going to do this for at least 10 years, so we had not purchased any expensive TVs,  new lounge suits or beds in such a long time, it was all old and very well used.
We had on our property an insulated shipping container that we had purchased a few years earlier for Callum to use as a recording studio, and after we had loaded in all our worldly belongings there was still room for Callum to use the container as a studio if he needed.

We worked right up until the 3rd last day. Craig having "the best job in the world"  at the internationally famous Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit - working with a great bunch of guys with  the Phillip Island Ride Day events, where  track time was allowed most days they worked.  My position at the same location but in the Visitors Centre, had been filled but the new recruit was not trained, so I felt I was needed and Craig was working anyway.
There was an afternoon of good bye drinks at our local Winery and a night each for our respective work mates but overall we kept a very low key, mainly because we found the whole ordeal a little overwhelming and we really wanted to save our pennies.

It was very hard leaving family and friends. We  moved out of the farm mid December and  spent Christmas New Year as well as a couple of months living with Craig's sister Deidre.
Deidre had purchased a lovely big house on top of the hill in San Remo and very kindly let us stay until we flew out. Craig was happy to be able to help her a little with the huge renovation she had undertaken and we fitted in as many family lunches and visits as we could over the festive season.  We spent some time housesitting and looking after Smudge and Schooey for our good friends Mat and Lisa in Ventnor.  Spending time in Ventnor , the suburb we had first lived in when we arrived on Phillip Island 30 odd years before was pretty special, it was like having a holiday, and we were able to reconnect with some beautiful friends living close by.
